A successful hunting trip involves planning, scouting, and patience. Missouri offers a variety of hunting opportunities to hone your skills.

If you plan to hunt with a firearm, you will need to complete a hunter education course before you can buy a permit. If you plan to bow hunt, MDC offers optional bow hunter education.

Does your neighbor always seem to fill their deer permits when you don’t? Are squirrels the only thing you see when you’re in the stand? Well, a food plot may be the answer. Learn about the basics of putting in food plots for deer and how you can still actively prepare for deer season during the summer.

Hunting allows us to help control wildlife populations and fun projects for wildlife management. Hunting is also a safe and natural way to help each of us reconnect with nature and our surroundings. In this class, we will cover all the reasons to hunt, why its important, and explore myths about hunting.

With the start of summer comes frogs singing throughout the night around our ponds. One in particular is bull frogs. We’ll learn about bull frog life history and the frog gigging season before making some delicious frog leg mole tacos. We’ll also learn how to make your own tortillas.

Now that you have harvested the buck of your dreams, do you know how to prepare it properly to take it to the taxidermist. There are several different ways to preserve the hide so that the taxidermist can make your deer come to life on your wall. Learn the proper steps to go from the field to the taxidermist. Anyone under age 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

With teal season starting next month its important to be prepared to hunt for one of the fastest waterfowl in Missouri! We’ll go over what types of teal you can expect to see and the equipment and decoys that will make your hunt a success.
