KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Processing a deer after you have harvested one is a great way to save money and achieve personal satisfaction. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a deer processing workshop at the MDC Northeast Regional Office in Kirksville starting at 6 p.m. on Nov 4. There is no cost for the program, but registration is required by Oct. 31.
The workshop will cover the process of harvesting a deer from the field to the freezer including skinning, quartering, and the various cuts of meat. All necessary equipment will be provided.
"This is an excellent opportunity for deer hunters to learn, or maybe brush up on, the necessary skills to process their own deer," said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver. "We will offer tips on how to make good burger, jerky and steaks."
Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather. The workshop is open to anyone 14 and older. Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
