MDC reminds hunters to sight-in their firearms ahead of the firearms deer hunting seasons

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Fall firearms deer hunting is just around the corner, and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages hunters to sight-in their firearms before hitting the woods. MDC offers many free shooting ranges in northeastern Missouri for hunters to utilize.

  • Atlanta Conservation Area (CA) in Macon County offers both rifle and pistol shooting opportunities. Learn more about this unstaffed shooting range at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ofL.
  • Lake Showme in Scotland County, managed by the City of Memphis, offers rifle, pistol, or shotgun shooting opportunities. Learn more at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ofE.
  • Rudolf Bennitt CA in Randolph, Howard, and Boone counties offers both rifle and pistol shooting ranges. Learn more at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/4qv.
  • Sugar Creek CA in Adair County currently does not have a shooting range offering as construction to repair damages from springtime flooding is ongoing. Get updates about construction efforts at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ofD.

MDC reminds shooting range users that target shooting is only allowed within designated shooting ranges. Use of the range shall be in accordance with posted rules or as authorized by special use permit, and users are encouraged to review the shooting range rules prior to visiting the range.
