BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites new and experienced anglers to catch catfish on the Big Muddy using alternative methods through a two-day catfishing clinic on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon.

The two-day clinic will begin with an orientation session at MDC’s Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center at 1401 NW Park Road in Blue Springs. MDC staff will discuss alternative fishing methods and will show how to create various types of set lines and how to use them to target the Missouri River's blue, flathead and channel catfish.

In the afternoon, staff will take participants on the Missouri River in MDC boats to set trotlines, jug lines, and limb lines for catfish. Participants will have an opportunity to eat lunch on their own between the orientation and time on the river and are welcome to bring snacks and water.

Participants will then meet again on Sunday morning to head back out on the river to collect fish caught overnight. The clinic will end with a demonstration on cleaning catfish for cooking.

This program is appropriate for adults and families with children ages nine and older. Participants should dress for the weather. MDC will provide all equipment including PFDs (life vests) for each person. Participants are welcome to bring their own Coast-Guard-approved PFD if they prefer. PFDs will be required on MDC boats at all times. This program is dependent on safe weather and river conditions. Participants will be contacted if conditions are not acceptable on the weekend of the event.

Participant are required to commit to both days. Space is limited and registration is required for all attendees. Register at mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/217958.
