Volunteers are welcome for the 23rd Annual Smithville Lake Federal Lands Cleanup Day 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 15. Participants should check in at the Jerry Litton Visitor Center at the south end of the dam on Route DD.
A free picnic lunch and a participation patch will be provided. Groups and individuals are welcome. Participants must pre-register so organizers will have a lunch count. For more information or to register, call 816-389-3947.
Volunteers will be picking up litter that accumulated around the lake’s shoreline during the summer season. Participants should wear sturdy outdoor clothes and bring drinking water.
The Missouri Department of Conservation is assisting with the event in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Clay County Parks and Recreation Department.
