Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Family Fishing event from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center in Blue Springs. This program is designed to teach basic fishing skills to newcomers.
MDC instructors will demonstrate how to cast bait and lures with fishing rods and reels. They will cover topics such as how to tie hooks onto line, how to bait a hook, and how to handle fish. MDC will provide all bait and tackle. The fishing will be at the center’s education pond. A fishing permit is not required.
This program is open to all ages. Children who attend will be entered in a drawing at the end of the summer for a new fishing pole and tackle box. Registration is required. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/4AW.
