Register now for Cape Nature Center’s outdoor story time Tuesday, June 19
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – It’s time to register for the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center’s outdoor story time Tuesday, June 19, at 11 a.m. Nature Center Volunteer Judy Lange will read “The Best Nest” to four to six-year old’s, then lead them in an activity to build their own bird nest out of natural materials.
“The story is about a mama bird who doesn’t like her nest,” Lange said. “She tells papa bird she wants to move and they look at all types of locations that end up not suiting their needs. Eventually, they find the best nest.”
Lange said the story helps children understand what the birds need when they nest and what materials they use to build a nest. After reading the story along the trail at the nature center, the group will continue the trail and collect materials to construct their own nests when they reach the nature center.
“Birds use twigs, lint and all kinds of materials to make their nests, and we’ll have a lot of those things available for the children to choose from as they get creative and build their own nests,” Lange said.
Parents should register their children to attend online at www.mdc.mo.gov/events. The deadline to register is Monday, June 18. Parents must attend with their children.
The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center is located inside Cape County Park North near the intersection of King’s Highway and Interstate 55. For more information about the nature center and other nature programs, go online to www.mdc.mo.gov/CapeNatureCenter
