EMINENCE, Mo. – Healthy forests and a healthy timber industry are major parts of the Ozarks economy. The Ozark community has come together to build an event celebrating the area’s timber industry. The Ozark Timber Industry Partnership Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eminence City Park. The event is hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the City of Eminence, the Eminence Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Forest Products Association, the University of Missouri Extension, and West Plains Ozark Machinery.

Gary Gognat, MDC resource forester, said the event is free and open to the public with several activities including fun programs for all ages.

“We’ll have nature programs for the children, Timber Sport Chopping, a tree giveaway and planting, and we’ll even provide lunch,” Gognat said.

Gognat said the event will feature opportunities for trained loggers to earn professional timber harvester education credits and learn more about the industry.

“Our forests and loggers share a rich tradition of sustainable forestry in our area and both are hugely important to our way of life,” Gognat said. “This partnership allows for a vibrant timber industry.”
