PIEDMONT, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Stream Team partners invite the public to help clean up the Black River, at the Clearwater Dam near Piedmont, June 16 and 17.
“We're going back to the Black River for round two of our clean-up effort and we can use all the help we can get,” said Jenna Stiek, MDC stream team biologist. “The Black River is beautiful, but it needs our help to clean up the trash.”
Stiek said free camping is available for volunteers who sign up in advance. Those who don’t plan to camp may arrive and sign in on the morning they volunteer. The sign in area for both mornings will be at the Corps of Engineers’ Group Camping area on Highway HH, just east of the Spring Valley Resort. The area is five miles from Piedmont on Highway HH. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., both days.
For more information, or to camp during the cleanup, contact Doug Geist, president of the League of Watershed Guardians, at (316)200-0684, or by email at douggeist@charter.net.
