PUXICO, Mo. – Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) applications will open Sept. 5 for a Youth Waterfowl Clinic and Hunt in Puxico. The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Oct. 4 workshop is open to participants age 11 through 15 who are certified in hunter education.

MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist DeeDee Dockins said participants will spend the day learning about waterfowl hunting techniques, firearms and field safety, duck identification and wing shooting skills.

"They will also learn distance estimation and learn how to choose the right combination of shotgun and ammunition for ethical, effective hunting," Dockins said.

The hunt portion of the event will be scheduled during the regular waterfowl season on an MDC waterfowl area. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and all activities are free of charge.

All youth hunters must pre-register and submit a $25 refundable deposit.

To obtain an application, contact the MDC Southeast Regional Office at 573-290-5730.
