MDC women's event provides tips on cooking with a Dutch oven

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Dutch ovens have been pleasing palates since pioneer times. People can get tips on using this age-old cooking device to make tasty dishes at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program “Outdoor Cooking: Intro to Dutch Ovens For Women.” This free class, which is for women only, will be 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 21 at MDC’s Springfield Conservation Nature Center. The class is for ages 14-adult. Girls 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult female. Women can register for this class at

Stews, casseroles, meats, and a variety of desserts are among the types of foods that can be prepared in a Dutch oven. In addition to learning how to use this time-honored piece of cookware, participants will also get to sample some of the dishes that can be prepared with a Dutch oven.
