MDC tree planting workshops scheduled for March

JOPLIN, Mo. – Trees are planted for many reasons, including aesthetics, wildlife habitat, shade, energy conservation, erosion reduction, and in remembrance of an event or person. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds landowners that when adding trees to your property, planning should come before planting. Before selecting and planting a tree, there are several decisions that need to be made in regards to evaluating the planting site. Planting a tree can be an event that has consequences that last a lifetime – and, in some cases, even longer. Without planning, a tree that is not suited for its planting location could develop problems in the future.

To help people learn how to plant the right trees in the right place, MDC will hold three free tree selection and planting workshops in southwest Missouri in March.

Workshops are scheduled for:

• March 14, 6:30 p.m., Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center, 201 Riviera Drive, Joplin
• March 29, 6:30 p.m., Aurora City Fire Department Meeting Room, 106 S. Elliot Ave.
• March 31, 6:30 p.m., New-Mac Electric Coop Meeting Room, 9 Mustang Drive, Anderson, 64831 (at the intersection of Highway 76 and Business Highway 71)
