SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Fishing an Ozarks stream from a canoe is a great way to catch fish and enjoy the area’s outdoor beauty.

Women who want to learn more about fishing a stream will have that opportunity July 11 at the free Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program “Women’s Stream Fishing Clinic.” This program, which will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will consist of a five-mile float on the James River. This free program will give women the opportunity to learn the strategies and techniques of fishing a stream from a canoe.

The float trip will be led by MDC staff and volunteers using MDC-provided canoes. All participants must be 14 years of age or older. Girls ages 14 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult (a woman over 18). Participants will meet at the MDC Southwest Regional Office in Springfield (2630 N. Mayfair Ave.) at 9 a.m. Transportation to and from the river will be provided. Participants are responsible for their own lunch and refreshments. Participants should also bring hats, sunglasses, sun screen, insect spray and whatever else they need for a comfortable float trip. Fishing equipment, bait, and lures will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own, too. People should also wear shoes and clothes that are okay to get wet.

Participants can register for this event at https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/167950.
