SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Hikes provide great opportunities to have up-close experiences with the outdoor world and get good exercise and fresh air.

On Sept. 3, women will have an opportunity to hike at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Busiek State Forest and Wildlife Area as part of the MDC program “Hiking: Women’s Hike at Busiek. This program is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and is for ages 14-adult. Girls ages 14-17 must be accompanied by an adult.

At this event, MDC Naturalist Morgan Wyatt will lead hikers on a 4.3-mile trek through a portion of MDC’s 2,700-acre Busiek Area in southern Christian County. Wyatt will point out key features of the trails, discuss animals and plants commonly seen at the area, and will discuss the overall beauty of the Busiek Area. Participants should dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes. People can register for this program at:

The Busiek Area is located approximately 18 miles south of Springfield and is situated along U.S. Highway 65. Hikers will meet in Busiek’s east parking area. They should bring lunch, water, and, if they wish, binoculars.

Program registrants should note that they now have the option to link their children’s accounts to their own, which will streamline the program registration process. Once a group account is set up, parents will be able to register their children for an event without having to log-off or log-in for each person. This allows parents to register an entire family or select family members for an event at the same time.

Staff at MDC facilities across the state are holding in-person and virtual programs. A listing of these programs can be found at mdc.mo.gov/events.
