CANTON, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Buck and Doe Run Conservation Area in Clark County will permanently close on Aug. 22.
A forested wetland, Buck and Doe Run Conservation Area consisted of 192 acres of timbered Mississippi River floodplain with access to a half-mile of Buck Run Creek. It offered visitors opportunities for primitive camping and hunting.
MDC’s lease on the land containing Buck and Doe Run Conservation Area will expire Aug. 22 and will not be renewed. The area has been removed from the MDC Fall Deer and Turkey booklet and notices have been posted online at nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/places/buck-and-doe-run-ca.
“Following a 50-year lease that began in 1968, the Gregory Drainage District has opted to not renew the lease of Buck and Doe Run Conservation Area in Clark County with the Conservation Commission,” said MDC Wildlife Regional Supervisor Chad Smith. “Effective August 22, 2018, the property will no longer be open to the public, and will be back under the authority of the Gregory Drainage District. The Conservation Commission appreciates the 50 years of public use the Gregory Drainage District has offered to nature enthusiasts.”
Over the past 81 years, MDC has developed an extensive network of conservation areas, natural areas, river accesses, and conservation nature centers for all Missourians to use, enjoy, and learn about the state’s forest, fish, and wildlife resources.
