CENTERTOWN, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in partnership with Missouri Disabled Sportsmen (MDS), will offer a mobility impaired and youth pheasant hunt Feb. 17 near Centertown.

The 15th annual Batchel & Henry Pheasant Hunt will offer mobility impaired and youth hunters an opportunity to shoot clay birds, interact with MDC employees, shoot in a continental-style hunt, enjoy lunch and a raffle, and then finish the day hunting birds behind well-trained dogs.

MDC and MDS will provide hunting dogs, field guides, and track chairs to assist mobility impaired and youth hunters over the weekend. MDC’s track chairs are wheelchairs outfitted with treaded tracks that allow for safe control and stability, providing access to the outdoors in all types of terrain. Meals will also be provided, and firearms and ammunition will be available to those who need them.

“MDS continues to be a great group to work with,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver. “These men and women selflessly put on these events so that all Missourians can enjoy hunting and shooting sports. They are an excellent partner for MDC to have.”

The hunt will take place at a hunting reserve near Centertown in Cole County on Saturday, Feb. 17. Event check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. The event will begin at 8 a.m., and will run until approximately sunset.

This event is free, but space is limited, and participants must apply by Jan. 31 to be considered for the hunt.
