MDC offers a night hike April 27 at Burr Oak Woods in Blue Springs
Kansas City, Mo. – Night time is the right time to see or hear birds of a different feather, or perhaps tree frogs croaking or insects chirping. Maybe a mammal will rustle the leaves in the darkness. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Night In the Woods special event 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center in Blue Springs.
Visitors can take trail hikes on an evening predicted to have a full moon to help light the way. They will find nature stations along the trail where staff or volunteers will teach how nocturnal animals use unique adaptations to survive in the forest after dark. Lakeside Nature Center staff will present live owls and opossums for viewing and discussions at 7 and 8 p.m.
This event requires no registration and is open to all ages. Participants are invited to bring a flashlight and a sense of adventure.
