MDC offers free Family Fishing clinic May 14 in Blue Springs
Kansas City, Mo. – Spring is a great time to go fishing, and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Family Fishing class from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center in Blue Springs. Fishing needs not to be a mystery. The basic skills are fairly simple and this class can provide knowledge and fishing experience at the nature center pond.
MDC will provide all equipment and bait for fishing in the pond. John Rittel, MDC community education assistant, will demonstrate how to rig and use spin casting rods and reels. Hooks will then be baited with worms, and participants will go fishing in the education pond with the help of Rittel and volunteers. This class will give participants the knowledge they need to go fishing with confidence and catch fish.
The Family Fishing class is open to all ages. Fishing is an outdoor activity that can truly be enjoyed by all ages. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed. Registration is required. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/4w7.
