SEDALIA, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Discover Nature — Fishing and Outdoor Skills Event for families 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club southeast of Sedalia. This event is a chance for new anglers to learn how to fish, or for veterans to polish skills.

MDC staff and volunteers will teach Lesson One and Lesson Two of the Discover Nature — Fishing program. Participants will learn about fishing equipment, proper knots for connecting lures to lines, casting, proper fish handling and how to bait a hook. Anglers wanting to keep fish can bring a cooler and some ice. Instructors will teach how to dress fish and prepare them for cooking.

Outdoor skills will include target archery and shooting air rifles at targets. The outdoor skills activities are recommended for adults and youths ages 9 and older. Adults bringing youths for the programs are asked to attend and participate.

A free lunch will be provided. Door prizes will be given away.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, call MDC's Sedalia Office at 660-530-5500. Directions to the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club are at sedaliarodandgun.com/home/directions.

MDC connects people with nature, including other Discover Nature — Fishing classes offered in other locations throughout the summer. For information, visit http://on.mo.gov/1HWUast.
