Chillicothe, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a dove hunt for youths ages 10 to 15 years old on Sunday, Sept. 1, from 4 p.m. till sunset at the Poosey Conservation Area northwest of Chillicothe.
The special hunt is an opportunity to introduce youths to hunting. Parents and experienced hunters are welcome to help participants. MDC staff will also be on hand to instruct youths and ensure safety. Shotguns and ammunition will be provided or youths are welcome to bring their own guns.
Being hunter-education certified is not a requirement for a youth to participate. However, there is a mandatory safety training meeting on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Training will be at the Calton House east of Route U at the Poosey Area, off of Livingston County Road 510.
The youth dove hunt is free. But participation is limited to 20 youths and pre-registration is required. The hunt will be held in a field reserved for youth hunters.
To register or for more information, call the MDC Chillicothe office at 660-646-6122. For more information about hunting in Missouri go online to mdc.mo.gov.
