Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Introduction to Sporting Clays class from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at the Parma Woods Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center at Parkville. Sporting clays is a shotgun target sport similar to trapshooting. But in sporting clays, participants move to different stations and clay targets are thrown at a wide variety of angles. The sport is good practice for shooting at game birds.

MDC staff recently developed a sporting clays layout in a forested area north of the Parma Woods rifle and pistol range. The sporting clays course will be used for educational shooting programs. For Introduction to Sporting Clays, MDC can provide shotguns and ammunition, or participants can bring their own shotguns. Non-toxic shot is required. The event requires a one-mile hike in uneven terrain to reach the shooting stations.

This event is open to participants ages 11 and older. Registration is required. Space is limited. To register, visit http://short.mdc.mo.gov/4X2.
