CALIFORNIA, Mo. – White-tailed deer are an important resource within Missouri’s natural communities and management practices can be implemented to maintain a healthy population on the landscape. The Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) enables landowners to achieve local deer management goals through additional antlerless deer harvest opportunities. A variety of habitat management practices can be implemented within woodlands, grasslands, and croplands to improve available habitat.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold an introduction to DMAP and habitat management during a landowner workshop from 5:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. June 16 at the California Shooter’s Club in California. The event will include presentations by the National Deer Association and MDC staff.
“Landowners who are interested in learning about DMAP, aging white-tailed deer, and best habitat management practices are encouraged to attend,” said MDC Private Land Conservationist Ashleigh McCullough.
The workshop is free but participants must register online by June 12 at https://short.mdc.mo.gov/4in. Refreshments will be provided.
