MDC names Julianne Stone as new regional administrator in the St. Louis region
St. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has named Julianne Stone as the new regional administrator to lead regional operations in MDC’s St. Louis region. Stone will head regional public resource management, private land, community conservation, regional planning, recreation use, infrastructure maintenance and repair, and regional business operations. In addition, she will ensure we continue to value Missouri’s natural assets, cultivate strong civic partnerships, and connect our citizens to new experiences and opportunities to connect with nature.
The regional administrator also coordinates with other MDC branches, including protection, science, education, and communications. Stone’s responsibilities will include delivering on MDC strategic priorities and ensuring that MDC activities are accountable and effective.
“I’m excited to join this local team of dedicated conservation experts who are the stewards of the fish, forests, and wildlife in our nine-county region,” said Stone. “Our priority will be to bring our experience and energy to engaging all citizens, helping them create positive connections to nature, and to ensuring the outdoors will be an enduring legacy for our region’s future.”
Stone’s professional background has focused on developing and supporting community, municipal, corporate and foundation partnerships. She has also been instrumental in creating and implementing new regional, community-facing educational initiatives. Her experience includes policy, planning and technical outreach assistance in the fields of environmental quality, community and economic development, regional planning, public outreach and engagement, infrastructure and transportation, regional trails, and sustainability.
Stone’s past appointments include vice president of strategic initiatives at Bi-State Development; director of the local government partnership and manager of community engagement and local government services for East-West Gateway Council of Governments and University of Missouri; director of the St. Louis Urban Outreach for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources; and policy assistant to the mayor of the City of St. Louis. She holds a master’s degree in political science from Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Oberlin College.
“These regional changes are part of the Department’s larger organizational roadmap for the future to build on the success we’ve had over the last 80 years in delivering on our conservation priorities and serving the citizens of Missouri,” says MDC Director Sara Parker Pauley. “We also need to be able to adapt as quickly as the world is changing around us, including successfully tackling increasing natural-resource challenges and a decreasing connection to nature by people of all ages.”
MDC has eight regions across the state and each region will be led by a regional administrator. All eight regional administrators report directly the assistant deputy of resource management in Jefferson City to ensure regional operations also remain coordinated at the statewide level. Regional administrators will transition into their new role in December with the final organizational roadmap completed by July 1, 2020.
MDC’s St. Louis region includes St. Louis City, St. Louis, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, Crawford, Washington and Jefferson Counties.
