MDC invites women to basic shooting academy in Columbia May 31, June 7 and 14
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a Discover Nature – Women: Basic Shooting Academy this spring. The academy will consist of a classroom session followed by two practical, mentored shooting sessions.
MDC invites women ages 18 or older – or girls ages 14 and older if accompanied by an adult participant – to attend this exciting and educational experience. In this special shooting academy, participants will learn the basics of firearms safety, shooting techniques, equipment, target shooting, hunting, and more.
The classroom session will take place 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on May 31, at the MDC Central Region Office, 3500 E. Gans Road in Columbia. The mentored shooting sessions will take place at local shooting ranges, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on June 7, and 14.
MDC offers this educational opportunity for no cost to participants, and all equipment and supplies will be provided.
“This shooting academy will provide women a great opportunity to learn useful techniques and gain experience with firearms in a safe setting,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers. “We’ll introduce women to new ways of enjoying nature, and leave them with the knowledge and confidence to help them continue shooting on their own.”
To attend the shooting academy, participants must preregister by May 30 by contacting Flowers at (573) 815-7901, ext. 2867, or brian.flowers@mdc.mo.gov.
