MDC invites public to attend tree walks in Joplin and Monett
JOPLIN, Mo. – This time of year is a great time to get out, take a walk and enjoy nature. These walks can be through a neighborhood, park, or rural area. In addition to providing opportunities to get exercise, these walks provide great opportunities to learn about trees.
In September, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold tree identification walks in Joplin and Monett.
The Joplin walk will start at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Leonard Park, located in the 500 block of Turk Avenue in Joplin. The walk will begin near the park’s shelter.
The Monett walk will start at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 at South Park, located at the intersection of Missouri 37 and U.S. 60.
MDC Community Forester Jon Skinner will lead each walk. He will highlight identification details and benefits of species seen on the walk.
