MDC invites preschool teachers to Discover Nature Schools teacher training workshop in Kirksville
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in cooperation with Truman State University’s Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC), invites teachers to attend an upcoming Discover Nature Schools teacher training workshop. The workshop will take place on Friday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the MDC Northeast Regional Office, 3500 South Baltimore Road in Kirksville.
This workshop is designed for educators of preschool age children. Childcare Aware will provide clock hours for attending and participating in the workshop. In addition to the course materials, each participant will also receive a free copy of MDC’s instructional unit, Nature Revealed, and other related publications.
“This Nature Revealed training workshop will provides preschool educators assistance in integrating nature and outdoor learning experiences into their standard curriculum, while presenting teachers with an opportunity to clock professional development hours at the same time,” said MDC Education Consultant Karen Armstrong.
The core of Nature Revealed is a rich, diverse collection of developmentally appropriate learning experiences that will help young learners discover the connections between nature and everyday living. The activities are arranged by season and may be conducted in their entirety or coordinated with other curriculum. Nature Revealed contains a wealth of ideas and information to empower educators to lead nature activities with confidence, knowledge and skill. Development and implementation of the activities follows Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Project Construct goals and Missouri Early Learning Goals.
To enroll in this training course, teachers can visit My Learning Plan, or the Missouri Workshop Calendar. The cost of the workshop is $35, which covers course matierals and lunch, and RPDC will bill attendees following the workshop. For more information, interested attendees can contact Armstrong at Karen.Armstrong@mdc.mo.gov, or Cindy Higgins with RPDC at chiggins@truman.edu.
