AUGUSTA, Mo.—Landowners and property managers will be able to take the mystery out of managing their stands of forests and woodlands, thanks to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). Healthy forests and woodlands benefit everything from trees and songbirds to streams and wildlife.
MDC is hosting a Forest and Woodland Workshop in St. Charles County on Wednesday, May 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on private land near Augusta. The workshop includes an onsite tour.
This workshop will be geared toward managing forests and woodlands for landowners and managers. Multiple management options will be highlighted that can maximize wildlife potential and timber value. Stops on the tour will show restoration activities including prescribed fire, woodland restoration, and edge feathering. There will also be a portable sawmill demonstration.
Part of this workshop will include a one-mile hike through steep and rugged hills to view various timber management projects. Participants should come prepared with appropriate clothes, footwear, and water. Bringing a folding or camp chair is also recommended as seating options are limited. Lunch will be provided.
The Forest and Woodland Workshop is free and includes lunch. Participants must register online in advance at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/oSf. Directions to the location to the field site will be emailed after registration.
