MDC hosts native plant sale at Runge Nature Center March 23
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites gardeners and landscapers of all skill levels to the annual native plant sale at Runge Conservation Nature Center. MDC and the Missouri Prairie Foundation’s Grow Native! program will host the annual event on March 23, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Runge Nature Center, 330 Commerce Drive in Jefferson City.
Vendors will offer hardy trees, shrubs, and flowers native to Missouri, and will provide information about the benefits of planting native species.
“This year marks the 15th year that Runge Nature Center has been hosting native plant sales,” said MDC Naturalist Austin Lambert. “They are popular for good reason. Using native plants in your landscaping is a simple way to beautify your property while benefiting many pollinators, butterflies, songbirds, and other beneficial wildlife. Not only are native plants easy to take care of, but there is a native tree, shrub, vine or other plant that is perfect for every situation.”
The native plant sale provides an opportunity to support local businesses and conservation partnerships, as well as a chance to get outside, discover nature, and bring home some of the beauty to enjoy in home landscapes for years to come.
Native plant and garden product vendors will include Missouri Wildflowers Nursery, Forrest Keeling Nursery, Pure Air Natives, Gaylena’s Garden, SunRise Gardens, Longfellow’s Garden Center, Prairie Hill Farm and Ozark Soul Native Plants & Landscaping. Local artist Ann Grotjan will offer pottery for sale, as well as demonstrations on her nature-inspired technique.
The native plant sale at Runge Nature Center is free and no registration is necessary. Some vendors will accept preorders. For information on placing a preorder, or to learn more about this popular springtime event, call Runge Nature Center at (573) 526-5544, or visit nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/places/runge-conservation-nature-center.
