SULLIVAN, Mo.—Landowners and property managers will be able to take the mystery out of managing their stands of forests and woodlands, thanks to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).  Healthy forests benefit everything from trees and songbirds to streams and wildlife.

MDC is hosting a Forest and Woodland Workshop in Franklin County on Friday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Meramec Conservation Area near Sullivan.

This workshop will be geared toward managing forests and woodlands for landowners and managers. Multiple management options will be highlighted that can maximize wildlife potential and timber value. Topics covered will include timber stand improvement, invasive species removal, habitat management, and best practices for timber sales.

This workshop will take place outside.  Participants should bring a folding or camp chair, dress for outdoor weather, and wear sturdy footwear for walking.

The Forest and Woodland Workshop is free.  Participants must register online in advance at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/oxa.

Meramec Conservation area is located at 3220 Highway 185 South, south of Sullivan.
