Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and partners will offer a free Get Outdoors! event 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, along the shores of Lake Remembrance at the Gregory O. Grounds Park in Blue Springs. All ages are welcome for nature and outdoor skills sessions in a program offered by MDC, Blue Springs Parks and Recreation, and Jackson County Parks + Rec.
A wide variety of activities are planned. Visitors can learn about and try out activities such as fishing, birding, archery, paddle sports, and outdoor yoga. MDC will provide the equipment for visitors trying out the activities. Naturalists will give presentations on wild edible plants and the interesting ecology of nature’s sometimes avoided creatures such as snakes, spiders, and insects.
The park can be accessed from Interstate 70 via N.E. Adams Dairy Parkway and N.E. Jefferson Street. It is on the north side of I-70.
The Get Outdoors! event will provide families an introduction to outdoor activities often popular in the summer months. Registration is not required. For more information, call MDC’s Burr Oak Woods Nature Center at 816-228-3766.
