MDC assigns new conservation agent for Maries County
VIENNA, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has named Caleb Sevy the new conservation agent for Maries County. Sevy graduated from the MDC Agent Academy in 2016 and served his first year with the Department as the agent in Washington County.
“I grew up an avid hunter and angler in Cass County, a rural community south of Kansas City that has a very similar tight community feel to Maries County,” said Sevy. “I am excited to have the fish, forest, and wildlife resources at my fingertips that Maries County has to offer, and my fiancé and I are very much ready to put roots down in the community.”
Sevy spent six years as a military police officer and currently serves in the Missouri Army National Guard. He earned degrees in Criminal Justice and Biology from the University of Central Missouri in 2013, and spent two years as a wildland firefighter crew boss for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
Sevy’s fiancé also works for MDC as a water quality coordinator and streams biologist in Jefferson City.
“We will be getting married at the end of this month, which is part of the reason why Maries County was a good fit for both of us,” said Sevy. “I love being an agent, and she loves being a streams biologist, so neither one of us have to give up what we love doing.”
Conservation agents are licensed peace officers of the State of Missouri, charged with enforcing the rules of the Wildlife Code of Missouri and other state and federal laws. The duties of a conservation agent vary with the season. During warmer months an agent may check fishing permits and creel limits or catch someone fishing through illegal methods. Duties related to hunting generally occur in the colder months, with patrol and stakeouts as a normal part of the job. Agents also have many duties in the areas of wildlife, fisheries, and forestry management, as well as working with schools and libraries to teach conservation-related skills and ethics.
Agent Sevy can be reached at (573) 619-3344, or by email at Caleb.Sevy@mdc.mo.gov. Game law violations can also be reported to the Operation Game Thief Hotline, 1-800-392-1111.
