MARBLE HILL, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) announces Wes Buchheit is the new Private Land Conservationist (PLC) for Bollinger and Madison counties.

Tony Jaco, MDC’s private lands regional supervisor, said Buchheit’s knowledge of southeast Missouri and his conservation experience will serve him well in the new position. “Wes is familiar with the southeast Missouri landscape and he understands local conservation needs,” Jaco said.

Private land conservationists make one-on-one contacts with landowners who seek conservation advice. They also work with other MDC staff, the University of Missouri Extension, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and other natural resource agencies to deliver resource management information to landowners through workshops, training programs and special events.

Buchheit received his Bachelor of Science from Southeast Missouri State University in 2013 and will finish his Master of Science in Fisheries and Wildlife from the University of Missouri this December. Since 2012, he has worked for MDC’s Wildlife Division in the Southeast and Central Regions, working in upland, wetland, glade, and woodland management, prescribed fire, and invasive species management. Buchheit has worked with numerous landowners and enjoys the interactions. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and improving wildlife habitat on his family’s farm.
