St. LOUIS, Mo.—Both Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) staffed rifle and pistol ranges in the St. Louis area will close temporarily during the week of March 7 for routine cleaning.  This includes the August A. Busch Shooting Range in Defiance, and the Jay Henges Shooting Range in Eureka.  All other range facilities, including archery and shotgun activities, will remain accessible to the public during the rifle and pistol range closures.

The closures will be offset and scheduled as follows:

  • August A. Busch—Rifle and pistol range closed Wednesday-Thursday, March 9-10
  • Jay Henges—Rifle and pistol range closed Thursday-Saturday, March 10-12

Weather conditions could impact the cleaning contractor’s ability to work and may affect the closure dates.  MDC recommends that shooters contact the ranges by phone or check the online MDC atlas listed below during the week of March 7 to confirm the closure schedules before coming to shoot.

Shooters can also keep up with the closures, and other happenings at both shooting ranges and other MDC facilities, by signing up for text alerts at https://short.mdc.mo.gov/4og.  Users may create a free account and select either email or text alerts from a list of MDC facilities.

The August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is located at 3550 Route D, approximately five miles west of Highway 94 in Defiance.  The Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is at 1100 Antire Road, just off I-44, exit 269 in Eureka.
