MOUNT VERNON, Mo. – Hunters planning to open dove season this Friday (Sept. 1) at the Robert E. Talbot Conservation Area in Lawrence County may have to reach the popular bird-hunting area by an alternate route.
A section of Missouri Highway 96 – the main highway leading to the Talbot Area from the east – is closed while two bridges are being replaced. The closed portion of Highway 96 is between the bridge over Stahl Creek (just west of Missouri Highway 39) and the bridge over Dry Fork Creek (just east of Lawrence County UU). Individuals can go to modot.org/southwest for updates on construction and for alternate routes.
Information on Missouri’s dove season and on dove-hunting areas can be found at huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species.dove.
