HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in partnership with Hannibal Parks and Recreation, will offer a unique opportunity to discover nature in the park Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 23. The events will take place at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, 301 Warren Barrett Drive in Hannibal.
Friday night, MDC will hold a Discover Nature camp for registered families to learn how to set up a campsite, build a campfire, and have an option to take a night hike to Sodalis Nature Preserve to learn about bats that live on the property. On Saturday morning, campers will learn to make breakfast over an open campfire.
Participants must provide their own camping supplies, and must preregister for the campout by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21. To register, visit mdc.mo.gov/events.
On Saturday, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., MDC and conservation partners will offer a variety of booths and workshops where visitors can attend “how-to” outdoor recreation demonstrations, and learn about current conservation issues and opportunities. The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) will also host a sanctioned archery tournament.

Partners who will have informational booths for visitors include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Missouri State Parks, Hannibal Parks and Recreation, National Wild Turkey Federation, Quail Forever, Pheasants Forever, Atlatl Madness, Parents as Teachers, Pure Air Natives, FKF Commercial Fisheries and Bait, and more.
