Discover nature with outdoor youth event in Vernon County
NEVADA, Mo. -- A second annual Outdoors Youth Event to teach hunting and shooting skills will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Elks Lake near Nevada. Elks Lake is in the Compton Junction area north of Nevada and off 1575 Road.
Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is sponsoring the event along with partners including the Osage Prairie Thunderin’ Toms Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, University of Missouri Extension, Vernon County 4-H Youth Shooting Sports, Ducks Unlimited and Max Motors.
The event is free and open to boys and girls ages 6-17. Parents or guardians are required to attend with youths. Lunch and all necessary equipment for activities will be provided.
Activities will include trap shooting, pellet and BB gun, black powder shotgun, decoy placement, archery, turkey and duck calling and dog handling.
Come dressed for the outdoors at this all-weather event.
