CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center’s August “Discovery Center” is focusing on Nature Deficit Disorder. According to Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Education Consultant Bridget Jackson, the event holds vital information for every parent, teacher, aunt, uncle and grandparent. On Saturday, Aug. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m., Jackson will present information on Nature Deficit Disorder at the Nature Center.
“Nature Deficit Disorder causes hyperactivity, trouble concentrating in school and many other problems,” Jackson said, adding that time spent in the outdoors has shown to decrease signs and symptoms of stress in both children and adults.
“As little time as we all spend in the outdoors now, it’s very likely that many of us have this disorder and don’t even know it,” Jackson said. “I hope many people will come to this Discovery Station and learn about this problem and get practical advice for combatting it.”
Jackson said there are many ways to help children and adults excel in life and feel healthier with outdoor activity. The event is open to all ages and youth and adult groups are welcome to attend. No registration is required.
