ST. JOSEPH Mo -- Common creatures can possess uncommonly interesting traits, as two upcoming MDC programs will explore.
The 4th Annual Insect-O-Rama will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Sept. 10 at the Conservation Department’s Northwest Regional Office, 701 James McCarthy Drive, on the Missouri Western State University campus in St. Joseph.
An insect chef, monarch butterfly experts and a beekeeper will make presentations. Cockroach races will be featured, or for smaller fare, microscopic insects can be viewed in the biology lab. Caterpillar collections will also be on display.
This is the “Year of the Turtle,” according to Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation. A program on turtle will be presented at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the regional office by Mark Mills, a herpetologist and professor at MWSU. Live native and non-native turtles will be displayed.
