CANCELLED 10/1/15 -- MDC hosting presentation on CWD at Powder Valley Nature Center Oct. 2
THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED ON 10/1/15 DUE TO LACK OF PREREGISTRATION.
KIRKWOOD, Mo. — What's all the fuss about CWD? How can it impact Missouri's wild deer? What do you need to know? Find out the facts about Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) at a special Chronic Wasting Disease and Urban Deer Population Management program at the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center. The program is Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
CWD is a neurological disease that infects only deer and other members of the deer family, called cervids, by causing degeneration of brain tissue which slowly leads to death. The disease has no vaccine or cure and is 100-percent fatal. The disease has established itself in Missouri in recent years.
Jason Sumners, MDC Resource Scientist, will explain what MDC is doing to combat the disease and how hunters, landowners, and concerned citizens can help slow the spread of CWD. Erin Shank, MDC Urban Wildlife Biologist, will talk about deer management options for communities in Missouri, and specific management and survey efforts in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
The program is free but advanced registration is required by calling 314-301-1500.
Powder Valley is located at 11715 Cragwold Road in Kirkwood, near the intersection of I-270 and I-44.
