DEFIANCE, Mo.—The best way to reinforce a new skill is with practice by doing.  That goes especially for shotgun shooting.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will enable those who attend the Aug. 3 virtual Introduction to Shotguns class to take their new skills to the next level.   The staff at MDC’s August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center will host a Live Fire Shotgun Shooting Session Saturday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m.– 2 p.m.  The session is free and open to ages 11 and up.  Participants must have already taken the class on Aug. 3 to attend the live fire session.

This program is an opportunity to come to the range and shoot a shotgun with an instructor. MDC will provide a shotgun for those who need it, but participants may bring your own as well. Shooting range staff will provide all ammunition required, along with ear and eye protection.  This is an open session and those who register can come anytime during the four-hour period.

The Live Fire Shotgun Shooting Session is a free program, but advanced online registration is required at https://short.mdc.mo.gov/Zjo.  As this is an in-person event, MDC asks all guests to observe current local social distancing and masking guidelines.  Bringing and wearing face coverings is encouraged where appropriate.

The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area is located at 2360 Highway D, about two miles west of Highway 94.

Program registrants should note that families now have the option to link their children’s accounts to their own which will streamline the program registration process.  Once a group account is set up, parents will be able to register their children to an event without having to logoff and login for each person.  This allows parents to register an entire family or select family members to an event at the same time.
