Looking for a family activity to squeeze in before school starts? Does the sport of fly-fishing interest you but you just don’t know where to start? Join us at Walther Park in De Soto, MO to learn the basics of fly fishing. Due to a limited amount of equipment, REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
In this class we will cover Fly fishing safety; rod selection; line, backer, leader, and tippet; basic knots; and the basics of fly casting.
This one-mile foraging skills adventure is designed for people who want a deeper, hands-on look at the natural environments that shape our region. The hike route leads through streamside habitats, dry and moist forests, and open field ecosystems, offering a rich variety of plants and fungi to discover and observe.
Participants will learn to identify edible and toxic plants, understand which parts are safe to eat, explore ethical collection practices, and discuss the medicinal uses of wild herbs.
