SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Wizard of Oz characters and conservation combine for two nights of Halloween fun on Thursday, Oct. 26 and Friday, Oct. 27 at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Individuals of all ages should plan to join in the fun of the Nature Center’s “Halloween Happening – A Return to Oz.” Each night, the event will be 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

At this event, individuals will be led on guided trail hikes where they will get an entertaining and educational lesson about how each wildlife species has its own niche that plays an important role in an ecosystem. The last hike is scheduled to leave the Nature Center building at 9 p.m. Children are welcome to wear Halloween costumes that are suitable for walking the trails at night.

While hikes are taking place on the Nature Center’s trails, activities will be going on in the building. Indoor activities include games, crafts and special exhibits.

The event is free to the public and there is no registration. Call the Springfield Conservation Nature Center at 417-888-4237 for details. Information is also at mdc.mo.gov/springfield. The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is located at 4601 S. Nature Center Way.
