Enjoy free upcoming programs at MDC’s Lost Valley Fish Hatchery in Warsaw

Warsaw, Mo. – Enjoy a nature break as the holidays begin with the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) upcoming free programs at the Lost Valley Fish Hatchery in Warsaw. Rainbow trout will be stocked in the hatchery’s education pond, and Santa will visit during one program.

  • A Family Fishing event will be offered from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18. Rainbow trout will be stocked in the pond, which also has channel catfish and hybrid sunfish. MDC will provide all necessary fishing equipment. Anglers may bring their own gear but no baits that are carried in water. Staff and volunteers will be on site to assist anglers, so it’s a good way for youngsters or grownups to try out fishing. Fishing is catch and release only. A fishing permit is not required.   • MDC will teach about monarch butterflies and help participants make seed balls with seed for plants that benefit butterflies in two sessions from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, Nov. 27. Participants can do a fall planting for seeds to sprout in spring. This event is open to participants ages 4 and older. Registration is required.   • Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the hatchery, and available for photos, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 2. The fishing pond will also be open for anglers and stocked with rainbow trout, catch and release only. Santa will share cookies with visitors, s’mores will be available, and youths can use stamps to make a wooden Christmas ornament. All ages are welcome. Registration is not required.
