MDC offers prescribed fire workshop in Kirksville March 3
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites landowners interested in learning about prescribed burning as a method of boosting wildlife habitat and reducing less desirable plant species to a free prescribed fire workshop in Kirksville on March 3.
MDC staff will discuss methods and techniques for implementing controlled burns, safety considerations, and proper weather conditions for conducting a burn. The workshop will also cover how to create a burn plan and time the burn based on your management objectives and landscape.
“Prescribed fire can be a great way to help manage your property,” said MDC Private Land Conservationist Nathan Hubbard. “These workshops are intended to teach landowners how to use prescribed fire safely and effectively.”
The workshop will take place 9 a.m. – early afternoon on Saturday, March 3, at the MDC Northeast Regional Office, 3500 S. Baltimore St. in Kirksville. The workshop is free to attend, but participants must preregister by Feb. 27 by contacting MDC Private Land Conservationist Nathan Hubbard at (660) 234-3009.
MDC works with you and for you to sustain healthy fish, forests, and wildlife. For more information on prescribed fire, go to mdc.mo.gov/your-property/fire/prescribed-fire.
