ST JOSEPH, Mo -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer free trees and advice on proper tree care from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at an Arbor Day celebration at its Northwest Regional Office on the campus of Missouri Western State University, 701 James McCarthy Drive in St. Joseph.
Each family will be able to take home two free tree seedlings while supplies last. Available seedlings will include Norway spruce, redbud, hazelnut, river birch, serviceberry, spicebush, flowering dogwood, aromatic sumac, ninebark and swamp white oak. MDC foresters will also be on hand to talk about maintaining healthy trees and answer questions. Activities will also include a guided trail hike, a fire-fighting activity and a chance to meet Smokey Bear. The event is free. For more information, call 816-271-3100.
