EMINENCE, MO. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a Forestry Field Day for landowners at the Eminence MDC Forestry Office on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Foresters, landowners and loggers who are interested in using cost share opportunities, receiving continuing education credit or just learning more about the best ways to manage a forest are all encouraged to attend.

“We’ll discuss ways to protect the foundation of a forest by improving how soil is conserved during timber sales,” said Jason Jensen, a Forestry Field Programs Supervisor with the MDC.

Jensen said topics at the Field Day will include pre-sale planning of roads, landings and skid trails, how to build water bars with conventional harvesting equipment, cost share opportunities, and proper installation of what MDC refers to as “Best Management Practices.”

“Best Management Practices are methods we teach and endorse that improve the quality of forest and protect our soil and water resources while getting the most out of your harvest,” Jensen said. “Some examples of Best Management Practices include building water bars on skid trails and roads, establishing buffers along streams, and protecting sensitive areas such as sink holes, caves, and springs.”

Jensen said lunch will be provided. The Eminence Forestry Office is located on the east side of Highway 106, north of Eminence. For more information about the event call (573)226-3616. For more information about the Missouri Department of Conservation and managing Missouri forests, go online to
