As autumn sweeps across the landscape, the prairie puts on its grand seasonal finale, swapping midsummer’s vibrant wildflower palette for a sweeping, rustling ocean of fiery bronze, amber, and deep gold. Join us for a magical evening stroll through Mount Vernon Prairie, perfectly timed to catch that ethereal October golden-hour glow!

We’ll gather at 5:30 PM, stepping onto the prairie just as the crisp evening air settles in and nature's night shift begins to stir.

Mentored Deer Hunt

Missouri Disabled Sportsmen, in partnership with private landowners, will host an antlerless deer hunt for two (2) youth hunters near Mount Vernon, MO

Selection preference will be given to youth hunters who have never successfully harvested a white-tailed deer and/or have a physical mobility impairment, but any youth hunter is eligible to apply for the hunt.

The selected hunters will be paired with an experienced mentor.

Learn to Fish

Join us to catch Bluegill at Chesapeake fish hatchery's aquatic education pond with fly rods! This is a "pond to Plate" fishing adventure, so we will discuss how to catch, clean, and cook these hard fighting fish! All participants 16 and over need to have a valid fishing license. All equipment will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own!
