Discover Nature - Fishing Lessons 3 & 4

Discover Nature – Fishing Lesson 3 & 4 Description:

*Discover Nature Fishing Lesson 1 is required before attending this program*

In the Lesson 3 portion, participants will learn about aquatic habitats, food webs, and the basic biology of common Missouri fish species.

In the Lesson 4 portion, participants will learn about various fishing lures and techniques, as well as identify and understand Missouri fishing regulations.

Archery

This program will teach the fundamentals of archery including equipment, safety, stance, and shooting techniques. This event will take place on the static archery range. All equipment will be provided.

Deer Hunting

Getting started in deer hunting, Want to learn how to find the deer? This will be the program for you. It will teach how to find game trails, feeding areas, and bedding areas to help you locate good positions to set up for your hunt.

Game Bird Hunting

For this program you will need your own shotgun and ammunition. We will set some common shots one might encounter while dove hunting on our five stand field to help hunters "knock the rust off" before going into the field on opening day!

Birds

Missouri is home to several species of both native and introduced doves and pigeons. In this virtual program, we will discuss how to identify each species that has been documented in the state by both sight and sound. We will also discuss dove hunting here in Missouri. This program will be held virtually. A link will be sent both the day before and morning of the program to your email address provided during registration.

Discover Nature Fishing Lesson 2

Participants will learn intermediate fishing techniques and skills. This includes how to tie an improved clinch knot and how to properly secure a variety of baits to various types of hooks.

Amphibians and Reptiles

Join us for a 3-mile hike on the levees at MTC to view reptiles and other native wildlife of eastern St. Charles County. Learn the identifying characteristics of the native turtles and snakes as we view them through spotting scopes. Meeting details will be provided to registrants the day before the program.

Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring (VWQM)

You must be a registered Stream Team volunteer to receive certification and monitoring equipment after the workshop. Register as a volunteer at https://mdc12.mdc.mo.gov/applications/Streamteam.

This event is the stream-side certification to become a Level 1 water quality monitor with Missouri Stream Team. Step 1 is to complete the online portion by watching the virtual training videos on our YouTube page (~4.5 hours). Discover Nature Fishing Lesson 1

This beginning class involves hands-on instruction to teach new anglers basic fishing techniques and skills. Participants will learn parts of a fishing pole, how to properly and safely cast a spin-cast rod and reel, how to recognize and rig basic fishing tackle, and how to properly handle and release a fish.
