Headwater Diversion

The Headwater Diversion Basin is the intercepted and diverted headwater drainage of the much larger Little River Basin. The four primary streams in the 1,207-square mile Headwater Diversion Basin are Castor River, Whitewater River, and Crooked Creek which are now tributaries to the man-made Headwater Diversion Channel that drains into the Mississippi River near Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Only 30,100 people live in the basin which is free of heavy industrial developments and major urban centers.
