New to fishing? This beginner-friendly introduction covers everything you need to get started with confidence. Learn about gear, knots, baiting a hook, and casting. No experience required - just willingness to get your line wet. By the end you'll be ready to cast on your own and catch your first fish!

Discover Nature Fishing lessons are free and open to ages 7 and above.

This event covers lessons 3-4 and will have a hands-on fishing portion.

Participants who complete all 4 Discover Nature Fishing Lessons will go home with a free gift to encourage future fishing.

Community Fishing

Do you know what's reel-y cool about fishing? Everyone can do it! Anglers come in all shapes, sizes, and experience levels. Join us in celebrating the great angler community on National Kids to Parks Day!

All fishing gear will be provided. We encourage you to share tips, tricks, and monster fish stories. Feel free to come and go between 11am and 2pm. Pre-registrations are encouraged, but walk in registrations will also be available that day.

Nature Art

Have you ever used a fish as a paintbrush? You will at this program! Come learn the traditional Japanese art of gyotaku, where science, storytelling, and creativity meet! Hone your printing skills in this class with replicas of Missouri's common fish. But the fun doesn't stop with these fake fish. We'll demonstrate how to take your caught and cleaned fish from the pond, to a print, before you enjoy it on your plate. Family friendly art event, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Community Forestry

Join us for the 2026 Annual Arbor Day Event. We will be handing out 2 trees per family with the Loess Hills Chapter of Missouri Master Naturalist and St. Joe woodworking guild present.

Species include: Bald Cypress, Black Walnut, Cottonwood Cuttings, Deciduous Holly, Kentucky Coffeetree, Mixed Hickory, Norway Spruce, Pin Oak, Pitch Loblolly Pine, Silky Dogwood, Silver Maple, and Wild Plum
